Is it permissible to deal in alcohol if one is not going to sell them to Muslims?

ANSWER

/*It is sunnah to praise the LORD before starting*/

Surah Al-Maeda(5), Verse 120:
لِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا فِيهِنَّ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

To Allah doth belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, and it is He Who hath power over all things.
(English – Yusuf Ali)

As you know how strict Islam is concerning alcohol and its dealing. It is taboo to sell alcohol not only to Muslims but also for non-muslims as well. I will, InshaALLAAH, quote some authentic ahadeeth which prohibit selling alcohol.

ALLAAH said ,”…but help ye not one another in sin and rancour: fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment.” (Quran-5/2)

(1) And the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) taught us an important principle when he said: “When Allaah forbids a thing, He (also) forbids its price.”

Reference :  Abu Dawood, 3488; classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Ghaayat al-Maraam, 318

(2) narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has cursed alcohol, the one who drinks it, the one who pours it, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who squeezes (the grapes etc), the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who carries it and the one to whom it is carried.”

Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Reference : Abu Dawood 3674 and Ibn Maajah 3380

(3) Anas ibn Maalik said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed ten with regard to alcohol: the one who squeezes (the grapes etc), the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who drinks it, the one who carries it, the one to whom it is carried, the one who pours it, the one who sells it and consumes its price, the one who buys it and the one for whom it is bought.”

reference : Al-Tirmidhi 1295

(4) ‘Abd al-Rahman b. Wa’ala as-Saba’i (who was an Egyptian) asked ‘Abdullah b. Abbas; (Allah be pleased with them) about that which is extracted from the grapes, whereupon he said:

A person presented to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) a small water-skin of wine. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said to him: Do you know that Allah has forbidden it? He said: No. He then whispered to another man. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) asked him what he had whispered. He said: I advised him to sell that, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Verily He Who has forbidden its drinking has forbidden its sale also. He (the narrator) said: He opened the waterskin until what was contained in it was spilt.
reference : saheeh Muslim 1579
(5) Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) even forbade to sit near the table of alcohol, selling the alcohol whether Muslim or non-muslim is far distinct matter
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day, let him not sit at a table where wine is being drunk.”
reference : Narrated by Ahmad, 14241, and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwaa’ al-Ghaleel, 7/6
From the above hadith mentioned by the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) no one dares to even look at it.I hope it will be cleared to you.
conclusion : It is highly taboo to sell alcohol, even if it for non-muslims.
Alhamdulillah
